We finally got our hands on some Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. We could only buy it by the case, but that isn’t so bad. Guinness Foreign Extra  comes in a four pack.  It is presented as a premium beer, and comes with a price point around $10. For that you do get a stout with a 7.5% APV. Review after the pour:

I was super excited to finally see Guinness Foreign Extra Stout at the store. They also had a drawing for a Guinness Mountain bike! There were only two cases of Guinness Foreign Extra left. I of course had to grab one. Sadly they didn’t have any Foreign Extra in the cooler so I had to wait for it to chill at home before trying it.

Guinness Foreign Extra has a bold flavor. It is a heavy stout. It is deep and complex. The extra hops and roasted barley come through strong and give this stout nutty over tones. You can taste the traditional Guinness stout here, but this one has an even fuller body. There is a nice bitterness to Foreign Extra, reminiscent of black coffee, with a little sugar. You also get a nice dark chocolate flavor, along the lines of a good 80% bar. I am really impressed with Guinness Foreign Extra. It will always have a place in my fridge.

We just got word that Guinness Foreign Extra Stout is coming to the US. It will be available starting Oct 1! I know what I’m doing friday.

History: Brewed for more than two centuries, GUINNESS FES dates back to 1801. We are grabbing a bite at Dominick’s our favorite pizza place and saw a new bottle in the cooler. It’s a non-alcoholic beer called Kaliber, brewed by Guinness. I couldn’t bring myself to get one. It’s kind of odd that they even make it. Have you ever had it?

We’re checking out Mugs in Raritan and were delighted to find these replica Guinness’s Porter glasses circa 1903. They just got the dark stuff on tap and we may just be hanging around here a bit more!

This is kind of dangerous as this place is a few blocks from Dan’s house.

We just finished diner (photos below). We are all happily stuffed. We will definitely be back!

 After attending a conference all day at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, I worked up quite an appetite (and thirst). I convinced my colleagues to head over to, tons of free peanuts, traditional Irish cuisine, (Bangers and Mash) and of course a pint of my favorite stout.

So for all of you lucky Penn folks who happen to be in the area, be sure to stop by The New Deck for a Guinness. As for the rest of us, I guess we’ll have to be content with just stopping by once in a while.
