Sunday, December 25th, 2011Merry Christmas!!! Did you leave a Guinness out for Santa last night? We sure did! Why leave the man milk when you can give him a Guinness to help keep him going through the night. Looks like we got some footage of someone pouring out the Guinness we left (not sure if that was Santa or Dad).

Black Beauty
Friday, November 5th, 2010Well it appears that we aren’t the only ones who enjoy the black stuff. Undefeated, rock-star, super-horse Zenyatta also enjoys her fair share of the best stout on the planet. It seems as though the mare gets rewarded for her hard work by drinking a few bowls full of Guinness Draught (so why do people give me a hard time when I enjoy it the same way?).
Zenyatta passes on lesser beers and opts for Guinness because she enjoys the full, dark texture and the rich, creamy head that the stout is so famous for. She certainly is no stranger to the finer things in life as the horse travels via private jet. And no, I’m not kidding… she really does fly first class.
Guinness has offered a trip to St. James Gate in Dublin, Ireland for Zenyatta, her trainers and owners if she can win at Churchill Downs on Saturday. If she does win, she will improve her race record to a perfect 20-0.
So place your bets and raise a pint to Zenyatta during tomorrow’s Breeders’ Cup. Hopefully she’ll be joining us in the winners circle.
Guinness Foreign Extra Stout Pour and Review
Wednesday, October 20th, 2010We finally got our hands on some Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. We could only buy it by the case, but that isn’t so bad. Guinness Foreign Extra comes in a four pack. It is presented as a premium beer, and comes with a price point around $10. For that you do get a stout with a 7.5% APV. Review after the pour:
Review:
I was super excited to finally see Guinness Foreign Extra Stout at the store. They also had a drawing for a Guinness Mountain bike! There were only two cases of Guinness Foreign Extra left. I of course had to grab one. Sadly they didn’t have any Foreign Extra in the cooler so I had to wait for it to chill at home before trying it.
Guinness Foreign Extra has a bold flavor. It is a heavy stout. It is deep and complex. The extra hops and roasted barley come through strong and give this stout nutty over tones. You can taste the traditional Guinness stout here, but this one has an even fuller body. There is a nice bitterness to Foreign Extra, reminiscent of black coffee, with a little sugar. You also get a nice dark chocolate flavor, along the lines of a good 80% bar. I am really impressed with Guinness Foreign Extra. It will always have a place in my fridge.
Guinness Foreign Extra Stout headed to the US October 1!
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010We just got word that Guinness Foreign Extra Stout is coming to the US. It will be available starting Oct 1! I know what I’m doing friday.
Here is some more info on this awesome news:
GUINNESS® Foreign Extra Stout (FES) is brewed with the highest hop rate of all the GUINNESS® variants. The generous hop additions express fully the beers distinctive character and flavor while also prolonging shelf life in warmer climates, as hops are the best natural preservative for beer. GUINNESS FES is uniquely different from GUINNESS Draught both in taste profile, color and ritual.
- Taste Profile: Big, full-bodied flavor with enormous complexity and character. Strong, roasted aromas followed by a unique bittersweet taste
- Appearance: Deep Brown
- Dispense: Carbonated (GUINNESS Draught nitrogenated)
- Ingredients: Malt, Roast Barley, Hops, Yeast, Water
- ABV: 7.5%
- Serve: In a GUINNESS goblet or chilled straight from the bottle; one-part pour at a 45 degree angle
- Five step ritual: Chill, Release, Pour, Toast, Enjoy
Tasting Notes: The sensation of GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout astonishes and activates the palate with the taste buds immediately ignited by a deep, rich sweetness of the malted barley. The strong caramel, coffee-like character of the roasted barley and the calm impact of the fragrant hops give an aromatic and sensual effect. The finish is perhaps the most important part of the GUINNESS taste experience ensuring these distinct sensations linger in your mouth longer for you to enjoy.
Suggested Retail Price: 4-pack @ $9.49
History: Brewed for more than two centuries, GUINNESS FES dates back to 1801. Known as West India Porter until the mid nineteenth century, FES was an export beer brewed with extra hops, giving the beer a more intense flavor. The extra hops also acts as a natural preservative for beer, allowing it to survive long journeys overseas.
GUINNESS FES was exported to the U.S. beginning in 1817, but was discontinued in 1920 due to prohibition. The specialty stout will make its return to the U.S. market in October 2010.
